Amigo Loans Mis-Selling

Guarantor lender Amigo Loans have been at the heart of the recent mis-selling scandal, due to the large numbers of unaffordable loans they approved over many years. Hundreds of millions of pounds have been reclaimed by past customers. As a result, Amigo is trying to introduce what is known as a Scheme Of Arrangement. This is when a company tries to get approval to pay creditors (in this case, previous customers who were mis-sold to) a portion of what is owed to them. The reason they do this is that they claim not to be able to afford to pay out the full amount, and so a scheme could be better than bankruptcy for previous customers if an appropriate scheme is proposed. 

Amigo's first attempt to introduce a scheme failed. Even though it was voted for by past customers, The courts blocked it after the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) objected to the scheme. The reason for this is that the scheme was not seen as generous enough, and shareholders were not contributing as much as they should.

Amigo is making a second attempt at getting a scheme approved, which includes more of a contribution from shareholders as well as raising equity. If this is not approved then Amigo will propose to wind down the company.

Are Amigo Loans In Trouble?

Amigo Loans has been banned from lending since May 2020 by the FCA. Since then they have made it clear they will go bust if they can't get a "scheme of arrangement" approved to pay the costs of customer redress from complaints. This would mean that claimants get paid an estimated 41% of the compensation they would normally be owed from a claim. This is more than they would get if Amigo went bankrupt and into administration. Currently, the court has approved the scheme, however, they still need to jump through a couple more hoops to get it over the line (e.g. raising funds and being allowed to lend again).

How Much Will I Receive If My Claim Is Successful?

What Information Do I Need to Provide?
You just need to provide the name of your lender and your personal details including the address that you lived at when registering with them. Once you have given these we can obtain details of any loans where a refund may be due.

How much will I be charged?

If you cancel after 14 days you may be charged for work done up until the time of cancellation.
